We founded Slipdown Mountain Publications in 2003 in Parker County, Texas. It just so happened that we lived on the side of the highest point in Parker County — Slipdown Mountain. In 2004, we relocated to Michigan's Winter Wonderland — the Upper Peninsula and reestablished the company as a Michigan limited liability company — Slipdown Mountain Publications LLC.
As a family-owned and operated partnership, our entire full-time staff of three proudly wears the Shiel name. Everybody does a little of everything, but we do have specific responsibilities. Below, you can read our brief explanations of what we each think we do around here.
We publish both fiction and nonfiction books — aviation history, cryptozoology, sci-fi/adventure, historical fiction and short stories. However, we are apt to branch out into other topics with little warning if they catch our interest...so be sure to check back often or, better yet, sign up for our email update newsletter. It won't clog your inbox since we only send it out when we have new books to announce, special deals to offer, or important information about our books or their authors.
Historical Note: Slipdown Mountain was the site of several massacres of settlers in the late 19th century. Seems the mountain (actually a large hill only a few hundred feet higher than the surrounding land) was a popular starting point for Comanche raiding parties, from north of the Red River, who frequently raided Parker County settlements. Slipdown Road currently transits the length of the ridge and passes through Slipdown Ranch.
