In 2005, author and researcher Lisa A. Shiel founded the Michigan Upper Peninsula Bigfoot Organization (MUPBO) to satisfy UP residents' intense interest in the subject. MUPBO is the only group dedicated to Bigfoot research in the Keweenaw Peninsula — Michigan's northernmost fingertip and the home of the historic Copper Country. Situated in the most remote and densely forested area of the state, with thousands of acres of uninhabited woods all around, MUPBO sits in quintessential hairy hominid territory.

Anyone can join MUPBO. Whether you live in Michigan or Mauritania, accept the Gigantopithecus theory or ascribe to the UFO hypothesis, MUPBO has something to offer you.

Soon, MUPBO will roll out an interactive website chock full of content for beginners and experts alike. The site will feature:
